Educational Technologies for International Settings

Course Context

IDE 772 explores how educational technology and AI are understood, adopted, and implemented across different national and cultural contexts. The six-week online course covered global AI trends and policies, applications in K–12, higher education, vocational and medical education, ethical issues, and regional perspectives. Students examined international cases, discussed how local contexts shape educational innovation, and developed a final project focused on either one country or practical guidance informed by international evidence.

My Role & Contributions

Course Review & Development

Reviewed course materials across the six modules and helped refine instructional content, activities, organization, and presentation for the online learning environment.

Instructional Media & Design

Explored AI-supported approaches to instructional media development and created and revised visual materials to support course content.

Online Discussion Facilitation

Facilitated weekly online discussions by engaging with students’ ideas, experiences, and questions about AI and educational technology across different contexts.

Experimental AI-Generated Instructional Video

Experimental instructional video created with HeyGen while exploring AI-supported media development for IDE 772. The prototype was used to evaluate the possibilities and practical constraints of AI-generated instructional video and was not included in the final course.

What I Learned

Working with AI-generated media was more time-consuming than I expected. The video took several rounds of revision, especially when I tried to improve the pacing, presentation, and visual quality. I also experimented with AI-generated images while reviewing materials for the six modules. Through this process, I became more careful about when AI actually saves time and when it creates more work. I also learned that good AI-generated materials still depend heavily on human design decisions.

The weekly discussions taught me something different. Students often connected the course topics to their own educational, professional, and cultural experiences. Some of their examples brought up issues I had not thought about before. I learned to read their posts carefully, respond to the ideas they were actually raising, and ask questions that could keep the discussion going. I was facilitating the discussions, but I was also learning from them.
